Choose by Purpose

Where you sleep shapes your yatra. Kashi's areas each have a distinct temperament — pick the one that matches yours.

Near Kashi Vishwanath / Godowlia

For: darshan-first pilgrims, short trips, Mangala Aarti attendees. Guest houses, dharamshalas and mid-range hotels cluster around Godowlia and the corridor approaches. Expect lane access, early-morning convenience, and lively crowds. Everything sacred is walkable; traffic noise and narrow lanes are the trade-off.

Assi Area

For: longer stays, writers, yoga-and-chai mornings. Assi is the city's cultural southern quarter — cafes, bookshops, the morning aarti and Subah-e-Banaras at the ghat. ~2 km from the temple; e-rickshaws bridge the gap in minutes.

Cantt / Station Side

For: comfort, families, rail arrivals. Varanasi's planned quarter has the city's larger hotels, easier parking and calmer nights — a 15–25 minute ride from the ghats.

Booking Wisdom

  • Season (Oct–Mar, Sawan, festivals) sells out — book well ahead.
  • Old-city stays mean carrying luggage through lanes; confirm vehicle access distance.
  • Verify recent reviews for cleanliness, hot water (winter) and generator backup.
