Kashi Welcomes Its Elders

For many families, bringing parents to Baba Vishwanath is a life's duty and joy. The corridor has made darshan gentler than at any time in living memory — but Kashi still demands planning. This guide paces the yatra for comfort.

Darshan Planning

  • Use the corridor entrance — ramps, shade, seating and assistance; avoid the gali's crush.
  • Book Sugam Darshan on the official portal for a managed, shorter queue.
  • Choose calm windows: early morning (after the aarti hour) or late evening; avoid Mondays and festivals.
  • Wheelchair assistance: the Trust's helpdesks assist on request — confirm current arrangements ahead.

Pacing the Day

One sacred event per half-day is a good rule: snan and darshan in the morning, rest at midday, the ghat aarti in the evening. Build in proper meals and afternoon rest — Kashi will still be there tomorrow, and she rewards the unhurried.

Getting Around

App cabs and autos serve all approach points; e-rickshaws bridge the last stretch. For the riverfront, know that ghat steps are steep in places — the corridor riverfront and Assi's gentler access points are easier. Boats: board only with assistance at calm ghats, and skip entirely in monsoon current.

Health & Comfort

  • Carry all regular medicines plus a written prescription list; keep a day's supply in hand baggage.
  • Winter dawns on the river are properly cold — layer up for boat rides.
  • Summer: darshan at opening hours only; midday is for air-conditioned rest.
  • Note the location of hospitals/clinics near your stay; keep your hotel's number handy.

Family Support

Assign one family member as pace-setter and one as logistics lead (lockers, bookings, transport). Fix meeting points at gates before entering crowds. Most of all: let the elders set the rhythm. A slow darshan with them is worth ten rushed ones.
